What influenced your decision on what to swap, and how does that small change feel in the bigger picture? Was the swap easy or difficult? What did it make you realize about convenience, cost, or access to better options?

Easy swap: no more plastic bottled soap, only bar soap sold in paper boxes.

What do you think the confusion around plastic labels says about our waste systems — and how could they be improved? What role do you think clear labeling should play in helping people make better choices — and who should be responsible for that?

I think making this kind of info easy to access could help. Where I live (Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado), we have an app that allows you to look up whether an item should be recycled or trashed. The app also sends notifications for bin pickup, special events such as paper shredding, hard-to-recycle collections, and free landfill drop-off days, among others. We also have a comprehensive food composting program (bins and drop-off options).

That sounds great. All our communities could use something like this.

I am also going to keep a glass food storage container in my vehicle to use when taking leftovers home from a restaurant meal instead of using their plastic to-go container. A small win for me!

I am now re-purposing all glass containers to use in lieu of plastics and I am determined to NOT purchase plastic storage containers in the future.

Today is my first day of the challenge, so I would say the greatest win I have had so far is in finding this challenge and joining with the hope that I might learn more ways to remove plastics from my everyday life.

We have three grandchildren under 6. They love the outdoors. We need to teach them through our examples how to care for the world around them.

I have prepped more than I did last plastic-free July, so now I have silicone ziplocks and glass Tupperware to take to work. I’ve realized how much of my plastic comes from food packaging in the last few days, and might sew some produce bags.

That the plastic stays in our bodies our entire lives...we never get rid of it. How is this allowed???

Today, without thinking, I almost used a plastic knife at a coffee shop, but stopped myself. There's no reason why I couldn't split a muffin in half with my hands! After all, I was going to eat with my hands anyway.

That's awesome! Rewiring our brains and habits takes time. Kudos to you for pausing and asking yourself: (W)hy (A)m (I) (T)aking this?
