Lead the Way: Shape Your Community
How did the conversation go when you brought up plastic reduction with your group? What reactions or ideas surprised you, and what might you do next to keep the momentum going?

For a few of my volunteer groups- We challenge ourselves to not buy single use products for socials or volunteer activities. We use the inventory we have and use "real" plates and utensils.

Members of faith communities, consider signing the Multifaith Declaration on the Global Plastics Treaty : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSey5--l3nO75aYvnVUja7uD_Z4YQS31HFEZKHSlyvr1adcPvg/viewform?pli=1

I'd also like to ask if you're planning or recommending any cleanup events in the Houston area. Thanks again.

Came across this great graphic of where microplastics have been found in the human body: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/373192401/figure/fig2/AS:11431281188931745@1694806261261/Distribution-of-microplastics-in-the-human-body-The-abundance-and-content-of.png?utm_source=1440-st&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=view-content-pr&user_id=66c4c518600ae150759adcdc

I enjoy nature with my family and I am always taken aback by how much plastic waste we see no matter where we go. We need to save our planet so future generations can enjoy it and so all of Gods creatures can survive. Single use plastic waste needs to be eliminated!! I’ve been working on this for years and I rarely buy anything that comes in plastic anymore. For household products I purchase through the Grove.com. They have an entire plastic free or low plastic section!!! Check it out!

I make a practice of picking up litter wherever I go, but particularly in natural areas. Bring along a small cloth bag to collect the trash in and dispose of it afterward.

More of a re-use story but trying! I am continuing to reduce my small "pile" of single use materials (and not accumulating more) when I plan a lunch for volunteer organizations I am involved with. I also say "no thank you" to napkins or utensils when picking up lunches.

Good for you! I need to remember to say "no thank you" to plastic utensils when picking up take out. I rarely need them, so end up just throwing them away if they are included in my bag.

At my karate school's annual beach training and cookout we actually had a recycle bin next to the trash can this year! This is a very easy way to reduce your footprint when hosting parties or summer cookouts. I encouraged my friends to do the same!

Excellent - it is recommended to always place the recycle bin right next to the trash bin to maximize recycling.

I am finally going to make the transition to a bamboo toothbrush. I've been planning to do this for a while, but I will actually order some tomorrow. Here is the company I'm going to buy them from: https://www.thegreencornerstore.com/product/brush-with-bamboo-adult-toothbrush/ This company is certified by Green America.
