What’s one change to your grocery habits that felt more manageable than expected — or harder than expected? Why do you think some products, like produce, started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I joined the Beyond Plastic Ecochallenge because I deeply care about my community and am increasingly concerned about the presence of microplastics in our water — and ultimately, in our bodies. As someone who travels often, I’ve become keenly aware of how differently communities around the world are addressing (or not addressing) the issue of plastic pollution. This challenge is an opportunity for me to learn from others, raise awareness, and contribute to meaningful change both locally and globally.

Day one here we go! I'm focusing on eliminating single-use plastics from my morning routine - switched to a reusable water bottle and brought my coffee in a ceramic mug instead of grabbing a disposable cup. The challenge is making me more conscious of how automatically I reach for plastic convenience items. It's amazing how many small decisions add up throughout just one day.

The knowledge doesn't eliminate plastic's utility, but it does encourage a more thoughtful relationship with it—using it deliberately rather than defaulting to convenience, and always considering the full lifecycle impact of our choices.
