I've been so busy that it's been difficult to check in during the week. I'm hopeful I can be more mindful of the daily reminders for the rest of the month.

    Hi,
I use ECOSIA as my search browser. Our searches plants trees.

I have bookmarked the site on my devises since the county will not let us download apps without IT approval. It would be wonder if the entire county supported an app like this one.

    https://www.ecosia.org/

    Please check it out. :)

I swung by Dollar Tree today... almost bought a couple plastic containers for project storage, but talked myself out of them. Thinking on it now... I also love using cigar boxes as project storage, and there's a local smoke shop that sells empty cigar boxes and donates the money to a local low-income high school sports department (helps buy uniforms, shoes, etc for the athletes, etc). Only down-side is "out of sight, out of mind" since the cigar boxes aren't see-thru. But overall win-win :)

What influenced your decision on what to swap, and how does that small change feel in the bigger picture? Was the swap easy or difficult? What did it make you realize about convenience, cost, or access to better options?

Running out of bottled water, and due to work obligations, not having time to buy more; about the same time i started this. i saw a brita reusable bottle on sale and bought it. while not "plastic free" per se, it is reusable and refillable with tap water.

How does understanding the origin of plastic change the way you think about using it in everyday life?

National Geographic has a gret YouTube (6 minutes) on how plastic is made and its impact.

That’s great! I’ll check it out. I love seeing photodegradable options more readily available. I have bought dog poop bags that compost themselves in the landfill.

What routines or habits help you remember to use reusables, and what challenges have you run into?

I'm usually good with putting my reusable bags back in the car before going shopping, so I'm keeping my other reusables with them.

You are a lot more organized than I am! I really have to work to remember to put the bags back in the car. I get ambushed by cats wanting to sample the results of my shopping trip, and I forget to deal with the bags. This Ecochallenge has inspired me to work harder on this.

With all the bad news in our world these days good news is always welcome. I found jacobsimonssays who posts positive progress that relates to our Ecochallenge.

Thank you for posting about jacobsimonsays! I hadn't heard of him, and now I've signed up for his newsletter. This is the kind of thing I love most about these Ecochallenges--learning from folks who are doing things right!

What was the most eye-opening fact you learned about the limits of recycling, and how might it shift your habits? How do you feel knowing that so much of what we put in recycling bins may never actually be recycled? What should we do differently?

It reminded me of the phrase "reduce, reuse, recycle". There was a comment that basically said "there's a reason why 'recycle' is third on the list.'
