Make a room plastic-free with someone else

Transforming a space together can build momentum and spark conversation. I will work with someone else to remove or replace plastics in one room of our home or work place, such as the kitchen, lunch room, or bathroom.

I check in every day and meet my goals, but for some reason each date circle says not checked in. And that's OK, because even though the system doesn't seem to recognize my checking in, I know that I have been and continue to be diligent and intentional.

Sunny, you might want to let Tech Support know about this issue. It might be affecting lots of participants. I've found the Tech Support crew to be prompt and helpful in their responses to my reports.

Although I have been conscious my entire adult life of the need to recycle, I know that there's always something new that I can learn. This annual activity also gives me an opportunity to tell other people about it and hopefully raise more awareness because let's face it, corporations aren't going to start doing business in any sustainable way, so it's pretty much up to us!

What was the easiest and hardest part of making the room plastic-free? How did doing it with someone else change the experience?

We were both pretty certain that there were plastics still lurking somewhere in the room, but because its presence is so ubiquitous and also hidden, there's no way to know for certain. The value of this exercise for us was to bring an added awareness to what we allow into our homes.

I am so used to fruit containers in my area not being recyclable that I have been setting them aside for the landfill. But today I just realized that they are all number one, so I am delighted at the discovery and also that I had not disposed of them.

Hello! I'm Sunny in WA state. I grew up in the Midwest and gardening, natural living in all senses of the word was just first nature. I have never strayed from those roots, but I am increasingly frustrated by the lack of places in my vicinity to recycle plastic, so I am making an added effort to refrain from purchasing products in plastic containers that cannot be recycled.
