Tari's actions

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Make a room plastic-free with someone else

Transforming a space together can build momentum and spark conversation. I will work with someone else to remove or replace plastics in one room of our home or work place, such as the kitchen, lunch room, or bathroom.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Celebrate someone else’s plastic-free effort

Positive reinforcement goes a long way in fostering sustainable change. I will celebrate someone’s effort to reduce plastic — whether big or small — by acknowledging their success in the feed or on social media and encouraging them to keep going.

DAILY ACTIONS

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Create a reminder system or routine for remembering reusables

Even the best intentions can be forgotten in the rush of daily life. I will create a system — like a note on the door or a checklist — to help me and others in my household remember to grab our reusables before we go.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Swap ideas for reducing plastic with someone close to you

Sharing ideas helps us stay motivated and discover new ways to take action. I will share ideas with friends or family members about ways we each reduce plastic in our lives.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

First Steps: Start with You

Learn how plastic is made

Understanding the origins of plastic helps us see its environmental impact more clearly. I will spend 30 minutes learning how plastic is made — from fossil fuels to finished product — and reflect on how that knowledge influences my choices.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

First Steps: Start with You

Estimate My Plastic Consumption

Understanding my plastic footprint is a powerful first step toward making change. I will complete a short online plastic calculator, like the one from rePurpose Global, to estimate my annual plastic use and explore ways to reduce it.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

First Steps: Start with You

Track my plastic use for a day or a week

Awareness is the first step toward change. I’ll track how much plastic I use in a day (or week), paying attention to packaging, food containers, and single-use items. I’ll reflect on what surprised me most and what I could do differently.

COMPLETED 20
DAILY ACTIONS

Share My Why

Take the Beyond Plastic Ecochallenge Feedback Survey

I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!

Sorta plastic related, I’m using grass clippings for my chicken run instead of buying bagged stuff for it!

I reuse ziplock bags in the freezer to gather veggie and meat scraps that I later use to make homemade broths.

Jessica, I call it scrap broth and basically I just put in all the scraps (including liquids, I save the drain off of potatoes for mash potatoes), add spices (most of the time this is how I use spices I don't use often), top it off with water, I take tastes from time to time and add more spices/herps if needed. once it's a nice flavor I strain it! I feed the strained items to my chickens once it is cooled and I can the broth so I can shelve and use later. You can also freeze it! I rarely buy broth in stores now!

I love this idea so much. I don't feel super confident in my abilities to make a broth, but I'm so interested in trying!
