"To acknowledge plastic pollution and to educate people on how throwing it away in the rivers or in the forrest won't make it go away and how we must make an effort to recycle or use alternatives.(thats the best picture I have of me)"

First Steps: Start with You

Discover the difference between bioplastics, compostable plastics, and recyclable plastics

Not all “eco-friendly” plastics are created equal. I will spend 10 minutes exploring the differences between bioplastics, compostable plastics, and recyclable plastics—and what happens to each at the end of its life.

First Steps: Start with You

Learn how plastic is made

Understanding the origins of plastic helps us see its environmental impact more clearly. I will spend 10 minutes learning how plastic is made — from fossil fuels to finished product — and reflect on how that knowledge influences my choices.

First Steps: Start with You

Find out why plastic recycling isn’t working as we expect and where plastics end up

Many of us recycle with good intentions, but most plastic doesn’t get recycled. I will spend 10 minutes learning why plastic recycling falls short and what really happens to plastic waste.

    First Steps: Start with You
What was the most eye-opening fact you learned about the limits of recycling, and how might it shift your habits? How do you feel knowing that so much of what we put in recycling bins may never actually be recycled? What should we do differently?

Somthing I did understand before diving in was that recycling cuts down it dosnt eradicate to sustainably get rid of plastics people are doing research on that topic but recycling only brings the number down for recycling to move and work at 100% power companies need to stop making so much more plastic what was really shocking was not all plastic that has the recycling symbol on it is recyclable some of them just have the tag for name sake. This really disgusted me a d how it might change my habitats is id probably use the plastic and I will put more thought into it but the only way this stops or starts a exponential change is if the companies stop lying or even better work on making it actually recyclable or finding a better option.

I wasn't able to do much of the eco challenge since I was in nepal with family and alot of the time it being a underdeveloped country its network isn't the best so wasnt able to log in every day but I put in alot of effort into recycling and the idea of limiting the amount of waste from what Iv learned from doing the research portion for this eco challenge and in my own personal time i understand the amount of plastic going out is still alot even if there is a effort to recycling because every thing in this dsy and age contains plastic not microplastics but plastic in one form or another you cant avoided it but being part of the tcc program to conserve means to keep simthing safe so I will always be doing my best to conserve I'v even spoken to a professor who was tutoring me hes working on filtering out the heavily polluted rivers of nepal and india using water mills and dried banana peals to purify the river(I read his research on google scholar if you can find do look into it)
I want to apologize for the grammar mistakes I had to do this in a rush.

This was from my hike with my friend we did make an effort to pick up plastic off the trail.

You've done a great job working within your constraints of traveling to learn about plastics, even if you couldn't participate fully. It's clear from your post that you are much more aware and will likely make different product choices in the future. That's what this is all about! Great job, Anay!

The idea that we must avoid unnecessary use of plastics and the plastics we do have we must dispose of properly or recycle them (there are also people researching better ways to make plastics and how to break it down). The way I usually do it is if there is a plastic container me and my family use it to store the spices we get from nepal in bulk welk also keep sometimes use as tupperware. This container is now used to stoor the local tea leaves we get.

I also try to repurpose plastic containers. I organize lots of small items, like office supplies and screws.

What inspired me is the shere beauty of nature especially now when im in nepal which has been my home for more than half of my life. So its sad to see the amount of plastic polution here you'll see somuch beauti in the trees on the hills and in the sound of the creeks running down the valley but look closer there's plastic everywhere. It hurts alot seeing that so I chose to participate even tho I dont know how this works.
