First Steps: Start with You

Put reusables where I'll remember them

Reusables only help if we use them! I will set up a system that helps me remember my reusable bags, bottles, containers, or utensils — whether that means keeping them by the door, in my car, or in my bag.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

First Steps: Start with You

Learn how plastic is made

Understanding the origins of plastic helps us see its environmental impact more clearly. I will spend 110 minutes learning how plastic is made — from fossil fuels to finished product — and reflect on how that knowledge influences my choices.

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Prep a reusable kit for on-the-go

Having reusables ready and integrated into your daily routine can help you avoid single-use plastic while out and about. I will put together a kit with items like a mug, water bottle, utensils, or tote bag to take with me when I leave the house.

I have a reusable lunch bag with a metal fork, knife and spoon. I have a reusable cup for my coffee that I bring everywhere and a plate that is glass since I don't like plastic texture anyways.

I have been trying to use reusable where I can. I hate using plastic silverware so that's easier. Its neat to see the fact that plastics have been being used for so long.

Try to use reusable where you can. We rarely by bottled water as we put a filter on our house and bought everyone water bottles of quality. If you really don't want to purchase a lot of foods that are wrapped in plastic, go to the Bulk Barn in Canada and bring with you some mason jars. Take them to the front counter where they will weigh them. Once they have been weighed, you go and get your spices, oats, flour, etc. and then bring it back. Must be super clean jars and lids though!

I really need to remember to put the reuseable bags into my vehicle. I have hundreds of them. Perhaps I can cut them up and make rag rugs.

Some grocery stores have a used reusable bag bin for those that cannot purchase them or if you forget them at home. We put our extras here since our collection was also getting quite large.

That would be a good way to reuse them. I also know certain community fridges will take large amounts of bags so people can take food home with them
