Chelsey's actions

First Steps: Start with You

Put reusables where I'll remember them

Reusables only help if we use them! I will set up a system that helps me remember my reusable bags, bottles, containers, or utensils — whether that means keeping them by the door, in my car, or in my bag.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

Change the Game: Shift Systems and Policies

Share an advocacy campaign on social media

Raising awareness helps build momentum for policy change. I will find and share a plastic reduction campaign or petition on social media to help spread the word and invite others to take action.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

First Steps: Start with You

Track my plastic use for a day or a week

Awareness is the first step toward change. I’ll track how much plastic I use in a day (or week), paying attention to packaging, food containers, and single-use items. I’ll reflect on what surprised me most and what I could do differently.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

Lead the Way: Shape Your Community

Encourage my workplace to switch to reusable products

Every reusable cup, plate, or utensil at work makes a difference. I will talk with my team or leadership about switching to reusable products in shared spaces like break rooms or kitchens.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Lead the Way: Shape Your Community

Find or suggest a refill station or reusable system

Access is key to making sustainable choices easier. I will suggest a refill station (like for water, soap, or dry goods) or a returnable container system in a space I use regularly — such as a school, office, store, or gym — to help make plastic-free options more visible and convenient for everyone.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Invite others to join the Ecochallenge

Our actions are more powerful when we take them together. I will invite someone to join the Ecochallenge with me so we can learn and take action together.

Lead the Way: Shape Your Community
What are some of the cases you could make to an organization or group for why switching to sustainable materials or reusables is actually in their best interest as well?

"Reusables pay for themselves"- swapping disposable cups, utensils, or packaging for reusables cuts recurring purchases.

I absolutely agree- I’ve found that if I hand wash lids or adjust my dishwasher setting I can make them last even longer!

Agreed! It can make things more fun, too. We found Stitch reusable containers at Costco, and we also bought some Star Wars ones a while back. Compared to single-use plastic or disposable containers, these make us smile when we use them. It’s a win-win!

I found that people think the issues and only issues are straws and bags.. Those may be big issues but not the only ones... There is plastic in clothing, packaging, cosmetics and a number of other things that people do not realize. Getting friends and family to realize that, is game changing to some.

I think a big thing is people not realizing how much plastic is used daily. It is everywhere, in everyday activities and it is often overlooked.

Definitely surprising once you put some thought into how much we use plastic.

My ecochllenge has been going well but I think I can do better with stay consistent with using reusable containers while making food to go! It is a challenge; I have truly taken on for myself going forward.

It can be so hard to remember reusable containers and then even harder to make the transition to glass containers- you can do it!

You're doing a great job. It's difficult to get set into new habits, but you can do it! Kudos to making your own meals and using reusable containers to go!

Even though I am always using a reusable water bottle at work. One pattern that I notice is that I do not always use reusable containers for my lunch. My partner has recently been keeping me on track and calling me out anytime I do not pack lunch in a reuseable container! (:

I try to keep a reusable water bottle in my car, so I do not need to use a plastic water bottles/cup when I am out and about.

Sometimes, it is challenging because I find myself having room temperature water on hot Florida days rather than ICE cold water from a store/restaurant when I don't have ice in my reusable.
