Lead the Way: Shape Your Community

Share a favorite low-plastic product or tip on social media

Simple swaps or strategies can inspire others—especially when shared publicly. I will post about a favorite plastic-free product or habit on social media to help normalize sustainable choices and show others that small changes are doable and worth trying.

COMPLETED 16
DAILY ACTIONS

First Steps: Start with You

Understand Plastic’s Impact on My Health

Plastics can leach harmful chemicals into food, water, and the air we breathe. I will spend 5 minutes learning about the health impacts of plastic exposure and explore safer swaps — like choosing glass or stainless steel over plastic for food storage and drinking water.

COMPLETED 13
DAILY ACTIONS

Change the Game: Shift Systems and Policies

Switch to investments that avoid fossil fuels and plastics

Where we put our money matters. I will research and invest in companies, funds, or assets that avoid investing in fossil fuels and plastic production, aligning my finances with my values.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Level Up: Influence Friends and Family

Invite others to join the Ecochallenge

Our actions are more powerful when we take them together. I will invite someone to join the Ecochallenge with me so we can learn and take action together.

I'd also like to ask if you're planning or recommending any cleanup events in the Houston area. Thanks again.

Came across this great graphic of where microplastics have been found in the human body: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/373192401/figure/fig2/AS:11431281188931745@1694806261261/Distribution-of-microplastics-in-the-human-body-The-abundance-and-content-of.png?utm_source=1440-st&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=view-content-pr&user_id=66c4c518600ae150759adcdc

I am finally going to make the transition to a bamboo toothbrush. I've been planning to do this for a while, but I will actually order some tomorrow. Here is the company I'm going to buy them from: https://www.thegreencornerstore.com/product/brush-with-bamboo-adult-toothbrush/ This company is certified by Green America.

I found this sentence in a research paper on ocean pollution, including plastic pollution, quite striking: "All of the health impacts of ocean pollution fall disproportionately on vulnerable populations in the Global South – environmental injustice on a planetary scale."

I try to post tips that people can readily use. Here is the latest one: Recycle plastic packaging from Huggies, Pull-Ups, Goodnites, U by Kotex, Depend, Scott, Cottonelle, Viva, and Poise products for free with Terracycle. See this link: https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/huggies

I use Ridwell Express to recycle multi-layer plastics (resealable food bags, frozen food bags, chip bags, candy wrappers, etc.). I save them up, and stuff it all into a USPS pre-paid bag from Ridwell. It's a game now, how much can I stuff into one bag.
